The clutch assembly is one of the most important parts of a manual transmission vehicle because it allows or interrupts flow of power from the vehicle's engine to the transmission. With well-functioning clutches and flywheel, and other clutch components, manual transmission vehicles are able to start and shift gears smoothly and the engine can run even if the vehicle is at a stop.

As the pistons press down on the crankshaft during combustion, the engine vibrates.
