Dynatech SuperMaxx Header Installation

At Stylin' Trucks, we love trucks and truck accessories. That's why our 2006 Sweepstakes F150 is installed with all of the aftermarket goodies that everyone wants. We've installed a Belltech lowering kit, a Magnacharger supercharger, a brake kit from Stainless Steel Brake corporation as well as many other goodies.

Entries are being accepted up until 9/20/06, so enter for the sweepstakes while you still can.

With the addition of the Magnacharger supercharger, the Ford F150's 5.4L had way more air flowing through it than the stock exhaust system could handle. So, along with a custom, one-off Corsa exhaust system, we installed a Dynatech SuperMaxx header system.

The headers from Dynatech include brand new, high-flowing catalytic convertors and factory-style O2 sensors. Manufactured entirely from thick-walled stainless steel, Dynatech headers resist rust and corrosion and their slip-fit technology allows them to work with any factory or aftermarket exhaust system.

Let's check out the installation! (Click the photos to enlarge...)

Remove the fender lining.
1. For better access to the exhaust manifold and headers, our installer removes the F150's fender lining.
Unbolt the caliper.
2. Next, unbolt the down tube, the catalytic convertor, and Y-pipe from the passenger side exhaust manifold.
Remove the F150's wheels.
3. Now the driver side catalytic convertor and down pipe can be unbolted from the Ford F-150 factory exhaust manifold.
Unbolt the caliper.
4. Before unbolting the driver side exhaust manifold from the F-150, the oil dip stick tube needs to be removed.
Remove the F150's wheels.
5. Now you can unbolt the driver side Ford F150 factory exhaust manifold.
Unbolt the caliper.
6. This photo perfectly shows how inefficient the F150's manifold is. Each runner is shorter than the next, causing unequal exhaust flow from each cylinder.
Remove the F150's wheels.
7. Here is the SuperMaxx header from Dynatech. Notice the equal length tubes for each cylinder. The F150 is really going to love this.
Unbolt the caliper.
8. The driver side Dynatech header is then installed in the same location from which you removed the F150's factory exhaust manifold.
Remove the F150's wheels.
9. With the Dynatech header in position, the new header gasket can be slid into position.
Unbolt the caliper.
10. With everything in position, the SuperMaxx header can be bolted to the engine block.
Remove the F150's wheels.
11. To gain access and remove the passenger side exhaust manifold, the starter must be removed.
Unbolt the caliper.
12. A few minutes later and the F-150's starter is ready to be removed.
Remove the F150's wheels.
13. Now the exhaust manifold can be unbolted from the F150.
Unbolt the caliper.
14. Again, we'd like to point out the inefficiency of the factory manifold.
Remove the F150's wheels.
15. The Dynatech SuperMaxx header for the passenger side can now be tucked up into place...
Unbolt the caliper.
16. ...and the installer can bolt it down.
Remove the F150's wheels.
17. Now the starter can be reinstalled.
Unbolt the caliper.
18. Don't forget the ground wire...
Remove the F150's wheels.
19. The Dynatech SuperMaxx header system came with new O2 sensors.
Unbolt the caliper.
20. The O2 sensors are screwed into header system prior to installation.
Remove the F150's wheels.
21. Now the new Dynatech catalytic convertor can be installed to the driver side header.
Unbolt the caliper.
22. Here's a great view of Dynatech's heavy-duty, precision laser-cut steel flanges.
Remove the F150's wheels.
23. Now the passenger side catalytic convertor can be installed onto the project F150.
Unbolt the caliper.
24. Now the Y-pipe can be joined to the Dynatech catalytic convertors.
Remove the F150's wheels.
25. The Y-pipe can then be joined to the factory exhaust system. Later the F150's factory exhaust was replaced with a one-off custom exhaust system from Corsa Performance.
Unbolt the caliper.
26. Here's the completed connection. Clean and leak free.
Remove the F150's wheels.
27. All the exhaust gasses are now routed out of a custom NASCAR-Truck style exhaust tip in front of the passenger rear wheel.
