Stylin Trucks And OTC A Perfect FitIt all started last spring when Ohio Technical College (OTC) advertised an open house of their campus located in downtown Cleveland. Will Mahoney, Mike Freeze and Tom Mattey took the 20-minute drive up I-77 and found a true hidden gem in the inter-city. On the outside, OTC is “a private, accredited post-secondary technical college specializing in modern and future mechanics for the automotive and diesel sectors.” But once you get in those doors, it is diamond plated, Hot Wheels collectin’, automotive movie posters hangin’, neon for miles haven for the automotive lover in all of us.
All sounds fun and cool, but what does this have to do with Stylin’ Trucks? It is a perfect opportunity for a partnership. Since that time, Mattey has spent lots of time and energy working with OTC on some things that are sure to be an effective and valuable tool for Stylin’. Step one was having OTC join us at the 2009 Stylin’ High Low Truck Show. They brought their tricked out Silverado Hybrid and set a tire changing station where spectators raced against the clock to take off then put back on a truck tire in true “pit stop” fashion.
Step two happened later in the fall when OTC provided the labor on a lift kit installation that was the focus in an article in the inaugural Chevy Enthusiast magazine (see related article in last month’s Daily Grille or at StylinTrucks.com).
Our next step occurred the weekend of March 19-21 when OTC invited Stylin’ to be part of their massive display at the Cleveland AutoRama held at the I-X Center. We featured Joe Wagner’s (Stylin’ CSR) Dodge Dakota that recently had suicide door hinges installed by OTC. We distributed about 600 catalogs and over 1,000 stickers to the crowd.
Finally, we are assembling a focus group of OTC students to brainstorm New Product ideas with our merchants and buyers. We will meet with the students and even have them produce some prototype products that we can show to vendors for production. It should be really exciting. Stay tuned for more.
