Q: I was trying to buy a set of rims for my 2004 F150 and the person on the phone asked what the bolt pattern was for my truck. He said that I need to know that before I could order the rims. What is the correct way to measure the bolt pattern?
Rob – Albany, NY
A: Rob, the person should have been able to tell you that your bolt pattern was a 6 x135mm for your F150. Measuring your bolt pattern and spacing is easy. For a 5 lug rim, you measure from the outside of one stud, then skip a stud and measure to the middle of the next. For even number of studs (6 or 8), simply measure from the middle of one stud to the middle of the opposite stud. This measurement is your spacing. Your Ford has six studs that are 135mm apart giving you your 6x135mm number.
