Q: I want to lower my truck but I'm not sure what is involved? How do I get started?
A: First, you need to determine how you plan to use your truck and decide how you'd like it to look and handle. If the truck is your daily driver, and you're looking for a mild drop of two to four inches with a factory-like ride quality - then you're looking at a kit that's going to be fairly simple to install. These kits can typically be installed with standard hand tools over the course of one afternoon. Check out kits from DJM, Belltech, Ground Force or AirRide.
If you're after the more aggressive drop and the firmer ride of a kit the lowers your truck more than four inches; these kits can involve some cutting and modifications. Typically the rear will require the frame to be cut or modified in some way to facilitate suspension and axle travel. However, the instructions that come with the kits are very detailed and if followed, you should be able to perform most drops in a weekend. Again DJM, Belltech, Ground Force and AirRide make kits for most trucks.
With any kit, it's a good idea to get some help from your friends to lift or move heavy parts like your bed or axle, and some power tools (like grinders and saws) will make the job go faster and easier.
