Nate Borger's 2003 Yukon Denali
When he's not cruising the mean streets of Stafford, Virginia, on his motorcycle, Nate Borger is busy navigating the circuit-boards and myriad electronics aboard his hot 2003 GMC Yukon Denali. From the dual DVD players, to the six Optima Yellow-top batteries, to the rump-shakin' MTX 9500 subs with over 10,000 watts pulsing through them, this baby is all about performance.
Oh, and we're not just talking about audio performance, we're talking about real performance too. Corner-cutting performance, dime-stopping performance, asphalt-scorching, tire-melting, supercharged monster performance! This AWD Denali puts the power to the pavement and does it well.
Engine and Power Adders
The process begins with the Volant air intake system, where the incoming air stream is filtered through a high-flowing, conical style air filter and crammed past an Airaid Poweraid throttle body spacer. The clean air is then sucked into the Magnacharger supercharger where it is force-fed, in mass quantities, to each hungry, waiting cylinder. After a very violent explosion, the spent gasses are routed through stainless steel headers from Gibson and a dual 3" stainless exhaust system with high-flowing Magnaflow stainless mufflers.
Transmission
But how can the factory transmission ever handle all of that power? It can't. Nate has outfitted his Denali with an FLT 4L60E Level 5 Transmission kit and a Precision Industries torque converter. The "Vigilante" series torque convertor uses a 3-disc clutch that puts plenty of squeeze on the cryogenically treated billet output shaft. A Trans Go HD-2 shift kit adds additional line pressure when necessary, and a Corvette transmission servo gives out the marching orders.
So don't get angry if Nate leaves your ride sitting at a stoplight in a cloud of burned tire and asphault smoke - you never had a chance. But don't worry, that doesn't happen too often. A much more likely occurrance would be the complete dismantling of your vehicle by the massive audio shockwave that the Denali's stereo system puts out.
Electrical/Video
Putting his degree in electrical engineering to good use, Nate has put together a stereo system that is both powerful and functional. And we don't mean functional because it works - as it most certainly does - we mean functional because it has a lot of features that are very easy to use. Any of the five LCD screens installed can easily display a video signal from any of the Denali's devices. And devices-a-plenty there are: two DVD players, a PS2, an XBOX, a navigation package, and a rear view camera.
Stereo System
But what about music? Don't worry, the Kenwood head unit can either play standard or HD terrestrial radio, Sirius satellite radio, or pull music from the onboard Kenwood 10 GB Music Keg. Once leaving the head unit, the sound waves are given a serious boost with two Fusion Powerplant 4-channel amps that supply a healthy dose of 2,500 watts to the vast array of Kenwood Excelon high and mid-range speakers, and two heavily-modded Earthquake D3 amps that pound on the four MTX 9500 series subwoofers to the tune of 10,000 watts (pun intended).
