Magnaflow Exhaust Installation
 |
Most custom truck builders agree – no truck accessories give you more bang for the buck than performance exhaust systems. Why? You might ask. The answer is simple. Performance exhaust systems look cool, sound great and add power and torque. What more could you ask for?
MagnaFlow has a strong handle on all three – performance, looks and sound. Not only do their systems provide excellent horsepower and performance gains. MagnaFlow actually goes the extra mile to make their systems look and sound just as well as they perform.
MagnaFlow starts with the finest materials and production processes. The company uses only the highest-quality, mandrel bent stainless steel tubing that is specifically designed to stand up to elements. In fact, the entire system is backed by a lifetime warranty. Unlike your vehicle’s factory exhaust (which uses standard bends that can squeeze down the pipes and decrease flow as much as 20%), MagnaFlow uses a mandrel bending process that does not compress the tubing at the bends and maintains a constant, unrestricted opening for maximum power gains.
The company then conducts extensive sound testing to “tune” the exhaust note and make sure the sound frequencies are within the driver’s comfort range. MagnaFlow designs each system to add a powerful growl while accelerating and a pleasant purr while cruising and idling. MagnaFlow’s engineers also make sure there are no annoying drones or rattles that might annoy drivers (and passengers) at highway speeds.
What really sets the MagnaFlow system apart is the free-flowing polished stainless steel muffler and matching tips. This specially-designed muffler contains no baffles, no chamber and no louvers. In fact, there are no restrictions at all, just straight-through, wide-open power. The muffler uses a perforated stainless core to dampen the sound to a smooth, powerful tone. Best of all, the entire muffler is polished for a show-stopping look. Each MagnaFlow exhaust system is then topped off with a polished stainless steel exhaust tip. All tips are double-wall construction to prevent long-term discoloration. These guys really thought of everything.
Every MagnaFlow system is designed to install in the stock location and includes factory-style hangers to simplify installation. Before MagnaFlow ships a single kit, every system is fit-checked and dyno tested to verify performance. See figures 1-12 below to see just how easy these systems install.
 1. Unbolt and remove the hangers for the stock exhaust. |
2. Drop the muffler and snake the tailpipe over the rear axle. If you're doing this install on the ground, you may need to cut the pipe to remove it. |
 3. Here you can see the stock exhaust has been removed behind the catalytic converter and the truck is ready for the new system. |
4. Save the factory hangers - you'll reuse them to install your new system. |
 5. Once you've removed all the necessary brackets and hangers set aside or discard the stock exhaust system. |
6. Here's our new system. The short, side-exit pipes exit before the wheel. This is perfect for trucks with extreme drops where clearance of the rear axle can be an issue. |
 7. Start by installing the new muffler at the Y-pipe and install the clamps but do not tighten. |
8. Install the new frame hanger to support the exhaust in front of the passenger side tire. |
 9. install the new rubber hangers to support the exhaust tips. |
10. Start at the front, and begin tightening all the clamps to keep the system level and make sure the tips are at the correct angle. |
 11. Here you can see the finished install - pay special attention to the polished stainless steel muffler. |
12. To top off the kit - a pair of polished stainless steel tips. |
