Stylin' Rolls to The Woodward Dream Cruise

Throughout the years, the Dream Cruise has been a signature event in the land of the automobile, Michigan, where folks witnessed cars and trucks gadding along the legendary 8-Mile Road all the way to the city of Pontiac. Unfortunately, the auto industry has been under major financial stress and some worried if the cruise would even come about.

But by the looks of things, the sluggish economy could not put a damper on the annual weekend ritual. The bumper-to-bumper traffic jam along the city’s main street, Woodward Avenue, featured an endless parade of various classic cars, trucks and other automobile treats.

We had the sense the locals have always yearned for this time of the year from how they’d propped their lawn chairs and carefully chose the right spot to catch a perfect view of all the custom rides rolling down the avenue. Besides, where else, in these days, can you get a glimpse of a ’68 Edsel or a ’54 Oldsmobile 88 sedan?

"It was really inspiring to see so many enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the automobile despite the condition of our nation's economy," said Vivian Root, Vice-President of Operations for Stylin' Trucks. "Although most people are watching their wallets, the people here, you know, carry extreme pride in their trucks and cars."

When you love your ride, you'd do anything for it. The theme for the show placed an emphasis on the American vehicle. One thing that caught our eye was an awesome 2009 F150 with an Extang tonneau cover. There were some car owners that showed off their vintage Chevy engine muscle and others flaunted their imagination with custom vehicles shaped like ghostly characters and early 20th century throwbacks.

The family-themed event featured drawings and contest giveaways that were sprinkled throughout the event on Woodward. Maybe you didn't get the stunning show trucks that you'll definitely see at the High Low Truck Show on August 30, but the sense of community proved that not all car shows are about winning trophies.
