Chevrolet Colorado Lambo Doors!
What's more custom than a flying set of Lambo doors? That's right, nothing. That's why we decided to put a set on our custom 2006 Chevrolet Colorado. The rig was already a poster truck for Goodmark Hoods and Skyjacker Suspension, so why not add another great vendor to the line: LSD Doors.
The LSD Doors Chevrolet Colorado Lambo Door Kit. |
The LSD Doors Lambo Door Hinge Kits are designed to bolt directly to your ride with a minimum of fabrication. The application-specific kits feature machined billet aluminum details and sturdy, smooth welds.
The installation of the Lambo Hinge Kit is as straight-forward as you can get. You need to remove the fenders and doors, then trim the fender and A-pillar for clearance. The factory wiring harness for the door needs to be lengthened, and the LSD Doors kit includes the necessary extensions.
Then it's just a matter of bolting on the application-specific pieces. The beefy LSD Doors Swingarm, including the dual-action lambo hinge, bolts to the door using the factory hinge mounts. The other major piece to be attached is the Chassis Plate. This piece bolts to the factory hinge mounting points on the A-pillar. You'll see that steps 24-28 outline the addition of two extra support bolts that will need to be added. The kit includes threaded rivets, bolts and spacers, making installation as easy as possible.
Finally, tweak your alignement and route the extended wiring harness out of the way.
Each LSD Doors Lambo Door Hinge Kit comes complete with installation instructions and all necessary hardware.

The Installation: Follow along as the LSD Doors lead installer takes on our Chevy Colorado. (Click the pictures to expand.)
 1. Unbolt and remove the fenders. |
 2. Disconnect the wiring harness for the door's power controls. |
 3. Now you can unbolt the Colorado's door hinges and remove the doors. |
 4. Each wire in the harness needs to be clipped and extended. Use the supplied extension kit, and follow LSD's recommendation to stagger the connectors.
|
 5. Then wrap the wires to protect them. |
|
 6. Now there is plenty of slack for the door to swing up. |
 7. The A-pillar must be trimmed to provide clearance for the LSD Doors Lambo Door Hinge. This fender support bracket must be removed. |
 8. Here, the installer removes the fender bracket with a hack saw. The cuts were cleaned with a sanding disk, and the bare metal was painted to protect it from rust. |
 9. Here's the rear of the fender, where it meets the door. This bracket, and part of the fender's rear edge must be trimmed for clearance. |
 10. So long, sucker! |
 11. Again, the cut edges were cleaned with a sanding disk and painted for rust protection. |
 12. Now it's time to attach the beefy LSD Doors swingarm to the Chevy Colorado's door. The swingarm bolts to the factory hinge mounting points.
|
 13. The LSD Doors kit includes new mounting hardware. |
|
 14. The swingarm bolts are torqued to the specs in the supplied instructions. |
 15. The sturdy LSD Doors Chassis Plate. |
 16. Just like the LSD Doors Swingarm, the Chassis Plate bolts to the factory hinge mounting point. New hardware is supplied in your Lambo Door kit.
|
 17. The bolts are torqued down to the specs supplied by LSD Doors. |
|
 18. Now it's time to mount the doors. The quality of the LSD Doors Lambo Door kit is apparent. These pieces are precision engineered and mate perfectly. |
 19. One person supports the door while the other tightens down two of the bolts. Don't torque them all the way - the door still needs to be aligned. |
 20. Now you can see why the fender support bracket was removed. The LSD Doors Lambo Door Kit is a substantial bit of engineering, and it needs enough clearance to function. Only a few steps left! |
 21. Install the LSD Doors Swingarm Damper - it supports the open Lambo-style door, and assists in lifting the door into position. |
 22. For the Lambo-style door to work correctly, it must first open outward. |
 23. This precision bearing allows the door to open slightly before raising into the coveted Lamborghini position. (See photo 34 for reference.) |
 24. Now we mark and drill holes for the Chassis Plate support mounts. |
 25. Drilling the hole. |
 26. The Chassis Plate mounts to the A-Pillar using the factory hinge mounting location. For extra support, two bolts, with appropriate spacers (see photo), further secure the Chassis Plate to the Colorado.
|
 27. Hardware and spacers are included. |
|
 28. Now the Chassis Plate is securely fastened to the Colorado. |
 29. The LSD Doors Lambo Door Hinge Kit features two areas of adjustment. One is here, where this threaded insert makes contact with the blue nylon stop. |
 30. The other area of adjustment is in the LSD Doors dual sweep hinge. It rotates both outward, for clearance, and up, for that badass Lamborghini look. |
 31. After dialing in the door alignment, tighten down the set screw. |
 32. It's all about cleanup as the installer tucks the extended wiring harness neatly into place. The instructions have a recommended way to do this. |
 33. After snaking the harness into place and securing it with zip ties, the installer tightens the door jamb cover plate down. |
 34. Now put the fender back on. Notice that when you open the door, it first leans outward slightly before raising into the Lambo position. This is made possible by the roller bearing we saw in pictures 22 and 23. |
 35. Check the final alignment before securing the fender. |
 36. The installer checks for final alignment. |
