How to Sign up to Twitter (and our Sytlin Trucks' Twitter page)
We know, we know... Stylin' Trucks is the source for all things trucks. So why are we showing you a page on Twitter? Well, we do have a Twitter page (http://www.twitter.com/Stylin_Trucks), and we are all about hearing from you. But we understand with everything getting tech in this world, things might be a tad bit confusing. But don't fret, that's where the truck experts come in. But for right now, consider this a "tech" learning experience.
Just to refresh: Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent conversations known as tweets (i.e. “What's happening?,” “Can't wait to go to High Low Truck Show!”). Here's a 10-step how-to guide to you get started...
1. Navigate to the Twitter Web site
The Twitter splash page appears.
2. Click the large green "Sign Up Now" button
The sign-up page appears.
3. Enter your desired username and basic information in the appropriate text boxes
The only information Twitter requires is a username, a password and a unique e0mail address where Twitter can contact you for notifications.
4. Type the CAPTCHA code in the Type the Words Above text box
This step is a standard Web tactic to prove that you're a human and not a spam program.
5. Find sources that interest you
To get started, select the topics you are interested in. Find a person you want to hear from (Hint: Stylin_Trucks), then follow them. When you "follow," each time they tweet, you'll see their tweets on your Twitter Home Page. You can follow or unfollow sources anytime.
6. Find your friends and colleagues already using Twitter
Scan your email address book or contacts to discover which friends are already using Twitter. Select an email service that you are using (i.e. Gmail, Yahoo, AOL). Follow any of the friends you find to add their Tweet Home timeline.
7. Search for anyone
This is the last step for anyone we've missed. Search for a username, first name, last name or business name (i.e. Stylin_Trucks). Once you're satisfied with the source you're following, click to your Twitter Home page. Find more sources to follow by clicking the "Find People" link at the top of your Twitter home page.
8. Confirm your account
Twitter will send you a confirmation message to the email you registered with. Until you confirm, you will have limited access to certain features on Twitter.
9. BOOM! You're done. How easy was that, right?!?
At this point, you should be looking at your Twitter Home Page. Don't worry, it looks bare-bones, but as soon as you fill in the "What's Happening" box (A limit of 140 characters), you'll be on your way. And soon enough, you can follow (wait for it, wait for it...) Stylin_Trucks.
10. Now for the cell phone part
Of course, you don't have to tied down to your computer or laptop to communicate on Twitter. You can use your cellphone to do it, as well (This makes things more interesting and fun). It's all done through text messages (aka "SMS"), which you probably use all the time anyway, so there's not much to learn. Don't worry, it's free, but of course standard text messaging rates or bundles may appy from your cellphone carrier. It's simple to set up. Just text a message with the word START to 40404 (or 21212 for Canadian users).
